Foot/Ankle Injury?

Ankle Injury
Whatever it is that pulls your foot up (it tends to stick up at the front of the ankle when you do so) is extremely sore after running. To walk or do anything hurts. What is it called that pulls your foot up and do you have any suggestions for curing before a run today?

The muscle I think you are describing is the anterior tibilias. The most likely reason that it is hurting is because you’ve overtrained it, doing too much with it too soon, especially if you have been running a lot of hills.
The thing you need to do is let it rest for a few days. If you don’t, it’s only going to get worse. After it starts feeling better with walking (painfree), then slowly ease back into walking but only on flat surfaces ( no hills!).
Also trying icing the muscle to help decrease the inflammation. And maybe some over the counter anti-inflammatories like advil or Alieve. Hope that helps. GOod luck!

I would strongly suggest acupuncture, as it is the most effective modality for treating pain and injury related disorders. You can find a certified acupuncturist in your local area by going to the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM ) website – http://www.nccaom.org/find.htm
The NCCAOM is the agency that certifies all acupuncture and Chinese medicine practitioners in the States. Go to the bottom of the page to locate practitioners.

If your tendon (which is called anterior tibialis tendon) is hurting everytime you run, then your tendon is inflammed and every time you run you are reinjuring it. I’d suggest a time of ice, rest, and Advil/Aleve and go see your nearest podiatrist for an evaluation. You may need to get some custom orthotics to help with your run. How long should you rest? With an overuse injur like yours, about 2-3 weeks. Tough I know, but in the long run you’ll benefit from it.

Stop running and bandage it so it limites the mobility of the ankle and keep wait off of it
