My leg is in a cast, and I am getting calf cramps?

Ankle Splint
I had surgery on my tendons and heel in one of my ankle about 2 weeks ago. I was splinted for 10 days post-op. I am now in a hard cast and have been getting horrible cramps in my calf. I had no pain until I was put into the hard cast. I’m getting lots of potassium and vitamin e. Any suggestions on what could be causing these? Any advise is welcome. Thanks!!!

If you are in a cast, and you are getting Cramps, – You need to call your Dr. There is always the possibility of Blood Clots and I rather you get it checked by your Dr then ignore it.
Also depending on your medications, it’s possible – the meds could be causing the problem too. Anti-inflammatories.
I would call the Dr and ask see if they can give you a muscle relaxor. But, I think they will want to see you.
DONT PUT IT OFF
Get well soon!

just relax your leg as much as possible

Your muscles are probably just deteriorating from lack of use.

It could be that your muscles are atrophying. Speak with your doctor about prescribing a muscle relaxer as stretching and flexing are out of the question right now. Feel better!

i don’t know. but you should definately ask your doctor. it might not be serious but it’s better to be safe than sorry! just call and ask a nurse, even. just tell them u wanted to be sure it wasn’t anything bad. ask if it’s normal or if u should be worried.

You need to return to the Doc and tell him. You need some Flexeril or other type muscle relaxer.

Oh I am sorry – that sucks. Call your doctor for sure. Also, try moving your body a different position maybe it will help!
Good luck – hope you feel better!

try to cool it down by putting a butter knife in the freezer and then put the handle between the hard cast and your leg
the swelling is caused by stress and tension on the leg , try to relax and don’t move unless you want or need to.
