hi
i just did a prokect on podiatry and i did part of it on Plantar Fasciitis. in short, it results when the plantar fascia (or connective tissue) on the bottom of the foot becomes stressed and imflammed. obviously, this causes a lot of pain because it hurts to bend your foot (thereby stretching the inflammed fascia). I would see a podiatrist because they can prescribe pain meds and accurately brace and heal the fasciitis.
but you should also know that when the plantar fascia is pulled from the bottom of the feet and inflammed (plantar fasciits), blood can fill the area between your heel bone (calcaneous) and the fascia. this area can ossify (create more bone) and therefore cause heel spurs. so you definitely want to get it checked before your fasciitis cuases anymore damage. hope this helps!

The best relief for plantar fasciitis is a good pair of shoes. Are you on your feet all day? If you can afford them, shoes from Z-Coil or Spira are great. If your doctor recommends it, a course of an anti-inflammatory (like Aleve or Advil) is good. If they don’t help, your doctor can inject cortisone into the joint to relieve the inflammation and pain. Once the inflammation is under control, gentle stretching exercises will also help.
