Tips for dancing with a sprained ankle?
I have a dance competition next weekend, so I have to go to dance practice tonight. But yesterday I sprained my right ankle and twisted my left (long story). They hurt really bad, but I have to practice. If you’re a dancer you know how it is. Any tips for dancing (modern and jazz) with a sprained ankle?
I appreciate your answers, but please don’t tell me not to dance. I have to practice: I’m nervous enough all ready.

Oops, I accidently posted that twice. Sorry!
(:
I forgot to put this before, but I also have two broken toes. I have to do three toe touches in a row in my dance!

I have performed with a sprained ankle but it is not a great idea and you can hurt yourself more, but if you are going to do it and no one can stop you, you should rest as much as possible. Ice for 10-15 minutes every hour (first 48 hours after hurting yourself.) Also elevate your foot as much as possible (above your heart.) Take Advil every four hours to help reduce swelling. Wrap your ankle in an ace bandage or other compression bandage. If you can mark and not dance full out in rehearsal that would help. Don’t try to point your foot, releve on it or jump. If at all possible and you know your routine, just watch so you will be able to perform next weekend without doing further damage. See a Dance or Sports Physical Therapist a.s.a.p.
Good luck! You will need it!
*****Thank you to whoever gave me the "thumbs up", but please no more. My answer, or any that tells this young lady how to dance when she should be resting, doesn’t deserve a thumbs up. I gave her, with much reluctance, a way to do it, but it still is a bad idea.

i’m sorry but i’m in both modern and jazz and you shouldn’t dance i mean dance puts a lot of abuse on our bodies already and you don’t need to make it worse. if you dance on it you’ll probablly end up breaking it and really not being able to dance on it for atleast 9 weeks. however if you absolutely have to don’t hold me to this. tonight you need to ice it and soak it in epsom salt and try and work it out and stretch it out but don’t push it however good luck.

i broke my ankle by doing pointe! I couldn’t dance for a while, but it was alright because I stretched, stretched, stretched. I became really flexible. If you just stretch, that will help A LOT. You’ll be amazed at how far you could go. As for dancing, try your best to dance as gently as possible. I really dont suggest dancing, but if you need to dance, then do it gently.

wrap both and when your not dancing be sure to ice it and prop it up make sure you rest whenever possible. And when you are dancing keep it wrap and don’t do it full out.

I would suggest to take it real easy at practice and just go through the motions. Then keep it elevated and wrapped whenever possible. You can alternate ice and heat. (On and off 20 minutes at a time.)
Take an over the counter anti inflammatory like advil or tylenol but make sure to take as directed.
This is the deal, if you dance on a sprained ankle you run the risk of doing more damage. I’m not talking about spraining it further and having to stay off of it I’m talking about tearing ligaments and tendons and needing surgery. This is a very real and scary possibility if you don’t care for it properly and let it heal.
There is also a possibility that you could damage it beyond repair and never be able to dance again. So the choice is yours, is this competition so important that you are willing to give up dancing for the rest of your life?

Wow, that’s like the same with me. I sprained my right and got tendonitis on the left. Use an Ace bandage if you absolutely have to keep dancing. Take it easy though by not doing hard on yr ankle jumps. Maybe no even releves consistently but outside of classs rest it
